Build a Rewarding Career and Help Make the World Safer, One Person at a Time.
Every company wants to enlist the best and the brightest in their fields, but not every company offers you the chance to do something truly heroic. When John T. Ryan and George H. Deike founded MSA in 1914, the two young mining engineers set out to make a difference in people’s lives by protecting workers in the workplace. Having witnessed the devastation associated with numerous and tragic mine explosions, MSA’s founders turned to Thomas Edison to help them create a product that drastically reduced mine disasters and saved countless lives.
Years later, we haven’t forgotten where we came from or why we’re here. We’re called The Safety Company for a reason. Our goal, every single day, is to provide our customers with dependable, high-quality products, instruments, and services to help ensure a safe return home at the end of each work day. When you join the MSA team, you not only have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Edison and the spirit of MSA’s founders — but you also have the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives and accomplish great things by being given the tools and opportunities to help you reach your full potential.
For the third consecutive year, MSA is honored to announce that we have been recognized by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as a Top Workplace in Western Pennsylvania. The Post based their determination exclusively on the feedback gathered from MSA associates and from employees at many other Pittsburgh companies. Overall, MSA ranked fourth in the Large company category, but we're proud that we also scored high in each of the following areas: The company's values, direction, leadership, and strategy; How the company communicates and gets work done; Work atmosphere and work environment; and Quality of the managers and their managerial skills.
MSA has been recognized by as Platinum Level "Fit-Friendly Worksites" by the American Heart Association (AHA) for demonstrating outstanding quality in promoting employee nutrition and physical fitness. The Platinum Level is the highest honor in the AHA's Fit-Friendly Worksites program. Instrumental in helping MSA earn this recognition was the company's wellness program, MSAFit. MSAFit offers incentives to associates who actively participate in health related activities including health screenings, lunchtime awareness classes, health risk assessments, and walking programs.
Becoming an MSA associate is unlike most other jobs. At MSA, you can build a career that ultimately accomplishes much more than bottom line results. You will feel good about your efforts, proud of the products we make, and confident in the positive contributions your work is making in the lives of people around the globe.
Diversity at MSA
The associates of MSA are our greatest asset. As the best and brightest in the safety business, they are the driving force behind MSA’s success.
At MSA, diversity means valuing each individual as unique and appreciating our differences. It is the policy of MSA to recruit and employ talent without discrimination and to give no preferential treatment to any applicant or employee.
An individual’s employment and all future changes in work assignments with MSA shall be based entirely on the individual’s ability, without regard to race, religion, color, age, sex, national origin, physical disability, or whether the individual is disabled or a covered veteran.
Co-op & Internship Programs
MSA offers a multitude of engineering co-op opportunities year round to students majoring in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Software, and Chemical Engineering. A co-op (cooperative education) program is an opportunity for students to connect academic learning with on-the-job experience by rotating between semesters of classroom education and semesters of work experience. MSA’s flexible program can work with a variety of university and college schedules, offering full-time paid co-op experiences during fall, spring and summer semesters. Many co-ops return to spend three or four co-op rotations/semesters at MSA, gaining deeper project involvement, more independent hands-on work experience, and stronger business relationships. Co-op positions are hosted at MSA’s locations in Cranberry Township, PA or Murrysville, PA.
Additionally, MSA typically offers a variety of summer internships in areas including but not limited to Marketing, Information Technology, and International Business.
Our recruiters regularly visit Penn State University, Carnegie Mellon University, West Virginia University, Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Pittsburgh, as well as other colleges/universities in New York, Ohio, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Check with your Career Center to learn if MSA will be visiting your campus soon!
MSA’s total rewards approach is designed to engage, motivate, and meet the individual needs of our associates. Our goal is to provide a best-in-class pay and benefits package.
Competitive Pay and Bonus
MSA is proud to offer a competitive compensation package to our associates. In addition to base pay, virtually all of MSA’s associates participate in variable pay programs which reward associates for strong performance that impacts business results.

This bonus program aligns goals and actions with desired company results, and financially rewards associate efforts when goals are met. In short, it establishes a link between employee compensation and the company’s financial performance.
