Growth in Focus
A message from Nish Vartanian, President and CEO
An important element of MSA’s success is our focus on one unchanging mission: to help protect people at work. Living that mission, however, would not be possible without an equally strong commitment to the way in which we conduct our business. Within MSA, we speak often about the importance of having a customer-focused, high-performance culture. But just as important are the attributes that define and shape that culture: our people, our communities, the environment, and our commitment to integrity.
Collectively, we refer to these as our social responsibility, and for MSA’s 5,000 associates around the world, that responsibility begins with our mission.
Since 1914, the impact of MSA’s mission has been immeasurable. Consider this: our first product — the Edison Electric Cap Lamp — reduced fatalities in coal mines by 75 percent over the following 25 years, representing thousands of lives saved.
Today, MSA products are either saving or helping to protect lives in more than 140 countries. They are relied upon by millions of workers every day. We are proud of this heritage, and we are proud of the lasting impact we make each day for our customers, our people, our communities and our environment.
MSA is investing in initiatives that are making a difference in our world, in ways we can measure. As an example, we are working diligently to protect our environment through the creation of programs to reduce air emissions, waste production, and energy consumption. We are also valued partners in the communities in which we live and work, through ongoing employee volunteerism, philanthropic giving, and a commitment to human rights.
We employ a diverse workforce around the world and, consistent with the MSA mission, are resolute in our focus on associate health, safety and wellness. Lastly, and in line with our foundational value of Integrity, we have ongoing training, awareness and reporting programs to support our global ethics and compliance programs. Here, our goal is simple: we want to ensure that every MSA associate feels the full support of our executive leadership team and board of directors.
I am proud of this work and believe these programs benefit all of our stakeholders. At MSA we embrace the responsibility of being a valued corporate citizen, and we are dedicated to creating a safer world.
